Clay Baldwin

Clay Baldwin has over 15 years of experience in government and business relations. Clay practices in the areas of international trade and transactions, business and corporate law, commercial litigation, government relations and compliance, and municipal finance. Clay’s years with the federal government were spent training and working in cross cultural environments overseas in both the public and private sectors. He brings a wealth of experience in negotiating complex agreements and contracts and developing and maintaining business relationships. Clay’s insight into foreign cultures and his ability to work seamlessly in challenging overseas environments, in both the commercial and government spheres, offers a tremendous resource for our clients expanding their reach into the global marketplace. This experience is also especially applicable to clients searching for solid representation before private and government entities when establishing a business presence in Mississippi.

Clay is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi World Trade Center. He is an associate member of the Mississippi District Export Council under the U.S. Department of Commerce and maintains a strong relationship with the Mississippi Development Authority. Clay frequently speaks to groups of businesses on behalf of these organizations to support efforts to educate and train Mississippi businesses to conduct business overseas. Clay is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the American Bar Association’s Sections on International and Business Law, and the Madison County Bar Association. Clay has also worked previously as a legal intern with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi, and the Office of General Counsel for Governor Haley Barbour. Clay was admitted to practice law in the state of Mississippi in April of 2010. He is licensed to practice before the State courts of Mississippi, the Northern and Southern Federal Districts of Mississippi, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Court of International Trade.

Clay is a 1993 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He left government service in 2007 to attend the Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, and graduated with honors in December 2009. Clay was an Associate Editor of the MC Law Review and a member of the MC Moot Court Board. He actively competed in appellate and trial competitions finishing as a national semi-finalist in an annual corporate law appellate competition in Delaware, and winning the annual Mississippi Trial Competition between MC and Ole Miss in 2009. Clay has been published by the American Bar Association’s Committee on International Trade for an article on international trade taxes affecting Mississippi businesses in 2009, and was recently published in January 2011 in the Mississippi Economy Watch for an article detailing opportunities for Mississippi businesses in the midst of a declining dollar.

Clay is a proud military veteran with over 10 years active duty as an officer in both the United States Army and Navy. He served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and is a Bronze Star recipient from that conflict. Clay, his wife Amy, and their five children live in Madison.
